Disclaimer: This review is going to contain a lot of spoilers, read at your own risk. You can also read mine, and MLE's reviews on our blog.I got this book from NetGalley for an honest review.First off I want to say this was painful to read, really painful, but I persevered. This book is terribly cliché, and so predictable that you really don’t have to think too much about what is going on. So if that is what you are looking for, cheers you found the book you are looking for. I couldn’t stand the main character from the start, she was a spoiled, selfish, petulant child. One might be mistaken at first glance, and think she might be a strong female lead. That is until she opens her mouth and voices chauvinistic opinions on her friend Katie. According to the high and mighty Ami, Katie is no good with weapons, fighting, or magic so it would be best to stay at home making cookies for when Ami gets home from saving the day. This pissed me off to no end, we have enough YA novels telling girls that the early signs of domestic abuse is love. So why not add a shot of anti-feminism in there to make that kool-aid go down so much easier. There were some other details that pissed me off as well, a racial slur, her lack of morals, and the fact that the farther I got in the more super special she was. There is such a thing as having a character that is too super special, when a character gets to a point where they are so powerful it’s just not that fun anymore. For example, if you have played Final Fantasy X, it would be like having all your characters completing the sphere grid. The game is now a cake walk, nothing poses a challenge to you anymore. Well the farther I got into this book the more of the sphere grid Ami uncovered, to the point my level of caring dropped below zero. Spoilers are now upcoming.Let’s go back to the Final Fantasy example I had going earlier, Ami starts out a warrior black mage combo. Then part way through the book you find out that she can heal, damn she is also a white mage. I am not done yet, no, not even close. Ami is super special, you find out she can raise the dead, as in phoenix down people. No zombies here, she brings back the dead with healthy body, and soul intact. So she can teleport, heal, cast offensive magic, defensive magic, fight using martial arts, and battle it out with a sword.Um, yeah at this point the author had to do something because at this point she is pretty nigh invincible. So we have a long lost twin *cough star wars cough* only her sister is no Leia, her sister is more a Darth Vader which Ami’s magic does no harm to. So the battle ensues, and she brings her boyfriend back from the dead AGAIN, blah blah blah, but in doing so she had to kill herself.Oh noes, we can’t have that, so her boyfriend makes his vampire best friend bring her back as a vampire fledgling, whatever that is. Oh and a immortal rich princess vampire fledgling at that.Yeah this book needs to die in a fire, it was a clusterfluff of epic proportions. I just can’t. There is having a special main character, then there is having a character that too special. Negative stars, and I am not going to finish this series, I just don’t care.
