I am having trouble writing this review, I have started it a few times, and just can’t find the right entrance. I tried with saying that this story was beautiful, because it was, bittersweet at times, but beautiful none the less. I tried with humor, because I just can’t not point out the Fabio hair on the cover, I mean I expect it on the bodice rippers I used to read in High School, but not on a mm cover. Now here is the difficult part, trying to express my feelings about the main characters. In the beginning they are very young, Brett is physically eighteen, but mentally he is both older, and younger than his years. His life has been awful, terrible, and horrid, that he made it out slightly sane is amazing. Cory is fifteen in the beginning, and from their first meeting, Cory becomes Brett’s rock. Brett would do anything for the boy, there is nothing sexual in this, it is all Brett making sure that Cory doesn’t end up like him, he wants, no needs to be Corey’s easy button. Now this book encompasses a few years, which really makes sense, because Brett is in no shape to fall in love with anybody, he hates himself too much. It takes the years of them being friends, and caring for each other to make Brett come out of his shell. There was one part of the book that pissed me off, if I had been Cory I am not sure I would have ever talked to her again. In one part of the book she takes advantage of Brett’s worship of Cory, and after that moment I hated her. I really hope that the author writes another story with them in it, even if they are just side characters. I would love to see how life is treating them, and how they are dealing with the scars life has given them. They do get their HEA, but the scars from their past still haunt them, and will affect their everyday life. Brett is still very angry, and Cory still very fragile, and I would love to spend more time with them to see how they work things out.
